Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair. ~Kahlil Gibran

EARTH DAY 2011

A lot of people think that they are only one person, and that they can't possibly have an impact on the world. But I think that many tiny ripples lead to movement in the pond. And if everyone created a tiny ripple, rather than waiting for someone else to 'fix things', they might be pleasantly surprised by the outcome.

Have you heard the one about the boy and the starfish?

One day a man was walking along the beach, when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”

After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…”I made a difference for that one.”

This year, Earth Day has the slogan "A Billion Acts of Green™" . There are many, many ways that you can get involved, be it with a large group, or as an individual. One person can make a difference. You don't need money, skills or even a lot of time. Take a peek at the site, and I dare you not to find some way that you can make a difference.
